In most note apps the data sits on the server of the company that built the app. NoteCloud started by inverting that assumption: there is no backend, notes live in the user's own Google Drive, and the app can only see the files it created there.
To reduce the friction of capturing a thought there are five separate entry points: a quick note in the sidebar, text extracted from an image, a voice note transcribed live, a link shared from a phone and a page clipped with a browser extension. Everything lands in the inbox first, and filing comes later.
The cost of a serverless architecture was paid in sync. Writing changes, merging conflicts and tracking deletions all had to be solved without a server coordinating them. In return the user's notes never reach a third party. The app runs in ten languages and installs on mobile devices as an application.
